The Story of TGP
OK heres the bottom line. Music is our way of a) having fun b)being dumbasses c) expressing ourselves..whatever, thats all bullshit and thats also all true. When it comes down to it we play music as a way to be unique, as a way to have fun. Its nothing more than that.
October 2000, Brandon and local Asian punk Arthur start a band called Chump Change. They go months without playing/other musicians. Finally, they go back to not having a name and try to choose between two kids, Adam Mitchell and Pat Mcgee.Arthur would be happy with either of them, Brandon is picky and cant decide. They want the band to be a trio. A couple months or so go by, and now the band consists of all 4 guys. One band practice occurs if it can be called a band practice, and eventually Pat parts with the band due to what can probably be considered a lack of interest on his part.
So now its Brandon, Arthur, And Adam. A couple practices (in which Arthur watches Brandon and ADam play) and Arthur leaves the band. It is around January of 2001 now and Brandon and Adam need to fill ARthurs and Pats places. They reel in fellow friends Keith Pratt and Mike Nagy. The long history continues...They start off with such songs as Mrs. C. John, Life Before This, and Dead Last. With the site that Arthur started back in November 2000, the gang grows popularity among their school and the East Lake area. The summer comes and they have several practices at Adams house with small crowds of people watching. The band goes from name to name, starting with Grounded and Swaggin' and Yellow 14 and then decide to stick with Elroy and never change it again. Shortly after, the band becomes aware of a slightly successful punk band with the name Elroy. A short period of depression comes next, and then Todd Goes Places comes about and will be this bands name forever. Thats what we said about Elroy though, so some shit might go down and it might be changed again..and then and only then will the band go by, Jacksonville 5. But for now, TGP is gonna say that this is the name for good.
Finally (trumpets please), Todd Goes Places has a show. A real show. In November 2001, they try out for a BAttle of the Bands and make it performing their song "Late Last Night". A little over a month later on December 20, they reach a whole new audience and some of their fans who previously hadnt heard them, now get the opportunity to at AStro Skate's BOB. They play with such bands as Ballistic and Cumberland Sound, along with two others..and they win 2nd place.
So, yes, Todd Goes Places has had quite a long history. They've gone thru members and band name after band name. But what will come of all this? Ask the band and their typical response is that they hope it works because they suck at everything else. End of story (so far) |
